Spalted Maple Mahogany T-Style

Here is another T-Style body

Spalted Maple top with a 1 piece Honduras Mahogany back

This Mahogany is beautiful stuff

This particular piece has 2 small holes that have been

drilled in it for some unknown reason. They are in a really bad spot

I tried to move my template around and get them in a cavity but no such luck

I guess I will have to plane it down and put a cap on it.

Here it is after the planer

Notice the two holes.I tried to position them under the control

cavity but no such luck.

This is pretty dense stuff.I am going to take a bit out

just to bring down the weight a tad.

Now for the top

I have had this set of spalted maple here for a while

As good of place as any to use it.

I will spare you the glue-up

Here is the result

Because some of the spalt is a bit soft,I think some binding

is in order.Maybe white/black/white binding

Decided to give it a couple coats of sealer before I route the binding

channel.Maybe it will help with the glue cleanup after the binding

The sealer really shows how nice the mahogany is

OK,lets get some binding on this puppy

I decided to go white/black/white

The 2 inner layers will be 1/4"x0.020"

The outer will be 1/4"x0.060"

Time to route the channel

I managed to get a couple pics

Hard to shut it down and take pics when you are using CA glue

Around the corner and squeeze it down

Now I will let the glue cure and then pull the tape

You might have noticed I don't use that wimpy binding tape

I like using packing tape. You can really suck it down with this stuff.

Thats a must doing this laminated binding

Off with the tape I say

Lets have a look

 Well

This body has just found a new home

It will be heading to Quebec when it is finished

Better get on it and finish it up

Lets get some sealer on this

Here we are outside in the natural light

That Mahogany looks pretty good

The new owner wanted to do some experimenting

He asked for a pic so he could decide on the configuration

From this picture he come up with this

I do believe he has decided on the white guard

My choice too

Just a couple updated pics after a few coats of lacquer

and a good wetsanding to remove a few bumps

Well a few more coats of lacquer later

And some cure time,we are ready to sand and buff

After going through the grits and 3 compounds

This is where we are at

A couple outside pics

Now it is time to start to put this thing together

First we need some string ferrules

A little heat from the soldering iron and they slip right in

Now lets see how everything lines up

This is not the neck that will be going on it,but it

is the same make so it should be OK to use for a guide

I really wish I had the neck that was going on it

before I drilled any holes but it is in Quebec

Just have to wire it up and then screw everything down

Then it's a nice plane ride to Sherbrook Quebec

WOW I need the new owner to take pics of all my builds
